IT’S UP TO YOU…..

Quality in all things is not something, or a standard that is set or measured by something or someone other than yourself.  Rather, it is the constant striving to give of your very best in all things that you do or strive to achieve. It is my belief, that true contentment and happiness is the feeling that arises out of knowing that YOU have given YOUR very best in any given situation.

To be able to give of our very best, we learn right throughout our lives. We will never know all that there is to know, for the world is constantly changing, and of course, we will continue to make mistakes.  No one is immune from that!  So, this means keeping an open mind to new ideas, to new ways of doing things, and not getting stuck in the past. Naturally, there  are those who will do nothing.  Constantly questioning life’s purpose.

Perhaps the simple truth is that we ARE life’s purpose?  But, can we ever truly know? Whichever way we look at it, however, there is only one person in your life who can GIVE it purpose.  Yourself! Is your purpose then, going to be to give of your very best?  Or are you going to settle for something less that that?

Perhaps it would be a good time to look at some of the reasons we have given up on ourselves until now, for not doing our very best? See if you recognise any of them.

You may not be paid enough.

But is that a reason not to give of your very best?

You may not enjoy the task at hand.

But that is a reason not to give of your very best?

You may be bored, frustrated or even just tired.

But that is a reason not to give of your very best?

What you do, or have done may not always be fully appreciated.

But is that not a reason to give of your very best?

You may not always know exactly what is expected of you.

But is that not a reason to give of your very best?

You may at times be called upon to do things that make you feel uncomfortable, things that might challenge you or make you feel afraid.

But is that not a reason to give of your very best?

You may at times feel abused, misused or simply taken advantage of.

But is that not a reason to give of your very best?

Your career prospects might seem limited.

But is that not a reason to give of your very best?

You might not have all the “right” tools to hand to get the job done really well.

But is that not a reason to give of your very best?

Other people might think you a fool, criticise and perhaps laugh at you for what you do, for THEY would never do what you are doing, citing any one of the reasons above.

But is that not a reason to give of your very best?

Now think about it. If we set our standards by things that are essentially external to ourselves, we will NEVER give of our very best because we will always be able to find a reason for not doing what we know we should be doing, or should have done.

There is, however, only ONE reason for giving of your very best in any situation. And that is, to develop an equal respect for oneself, for others, for all of life and for all that is living.

Makes you think—doesn’t it?  Now, as much as you are what you wear, what you will become  is being woven out of the tapestry of the present moment.  EVERYTHING you do bears your mark.  No one else’s!

So now, are you truly going to allow something external to yourselves to dictate the pattern you are now weaving for yourself out of the fabric of the present moment? Or, are you going to be far sighted enough to see that the end result of your life’s work should be a thing of true beauty despite the frustrations of the present?

For that which is beautiful is not simply an end in itself, but is a beginning to all of those who will follow on after you.

Others will, and always have, set their standards by what others have left  behind.

WHAT WILL YOU BE LEAVING BEHIND?

Something of beauty?  Or something else?

It’s up to you, you know!
